Developer’s Corner - Planned Features

We’ve been adding links and images to the app lately, and are moving closer to wrapping things up on the testing server.  We are going to be hosting using the awesome Elastic Compute Cloud supplied by Amazon Web Services, so I’m pretty sure if there is a sudden jump in usage, we’ll be able to handle it.

Overall there are a lot of updates I’ll be working on to make this thing harder, better, faster, stronger. Here’s a quick overview of some of the things that I’ll be working on in the coming weeks and months.

Visible Updates to the App:

  • User view: Since there isn’t any profile information (Yet) all you would be seeing is all the votepages that the user has worked with (similar to the ‘My Votepages’ view, but for other users)
  • User Permissions: This is almost ready to go on the server end, it just needs to be implemented into the Flash application.
  • Project Admin: A much more robust Project system is in the works that gives users the ability to manage multiple votepages and Published Texts, and arrange them into different formats. So if you want a continuing serial a la Flash Gordon, you can manage it under a single project, and people will be able to go to the Library and see the most current version of everything
  • Robust Story Administration: You’ll be able to screen submissions before letting people vote on them, move back wards to attempt recreating a part and more.

Behind the scenes updates

  • Implementation of the SimpleDB from Amazon Web Services
  • Creation of an API and publishing of the authoring Actionscript 3/Flex source that will allow you to create your own specialized authoring site. (Don’t expect that anytime soon though)

Library Updates

  • Comment system
  • Digg-like voting

Obviously that’s a lot of stuff for one person to tackle, but hey, we got this far with just the two of us.

Cheers!
