Launching Votepages in “Beta”
Wednesday, 6 August 2008
What does it mean to launch Votepages in “Beta” for us? The website that we have made is highly interactive, social, and pretty complicated. It involves creative writing, voting, submitting, publishing, lots of interactivity. This system is about as complicated as any other social application out there like Facebook, Friendster, or blogger.com, etc. So we are launching the site in “Beta” which pretty much means the application works, it can do what we designed it to do, but we are very aware that improvements can be made to the application.
What we are hoping for by launching the site in Beta is to get enough people to try the system and give feedback to us on their experience. We also want to look at how people use the application, what are some obvious errors that seem to re-occur (if any). We imagine that there will be lots of valuable knowledge to be gained from releasing the application”into the wild” and letting people try it out.
Next in my series on “launching” I am going to write about exactly how we plan to get users to try the system out i.e. get more traffic. And we can follow on this blog whether or not it is working.
